Lake Baroon

Freshwater
Playground
for everyone

When the Sunshine Coast communities needed more water, the Obi Obi was dammed at Baroon Pocket creating a huge expanse of fresh water.

Water sports, recreation and regattas feature in the annual calendar of events at this tranquil and open venue.

"Reflections of Lake Baroon" have a wide range of water craft available for hire throughout the year.

Over the years facilities have been added and the Lake now boasts extensive picnicing and barbequeing facilities, children's playgrounds, toilets, a kiosk and a sailboat and paddle-boat hire business.

As the communities perched high on the range above are becoming increasingly concerned about future supplies of potable water, Lake Baroon is being proposed as the source of saviour. It will mean building a pipeline back up the hill.

Possibly the ultimate in water-recycling, an area in which Caloundra City Council is taking a strong initiative. In the meantime there's plenty of water and fun for all at this magnificent man-made resource.
