Borumba DamA short drive inland from Imbil is one of the hinterland's water reserves. The Borumba Dam offers visitors some spectacular scenery as well as fishing, camping and byo boating in a serene and delightful setting. The official welcome sign - I must admit it was refreshing to come across something like this that didn't have some politician's name splashed across it. However - just to let you know - the "modern" times have impacted this lovely place with one of the waterway hazards - blue-green algae. This was taken the day after midwinter's day in 2002 and still the hazard level was "medium". Downstream from the Dam is a well-presented (and well-provisioned) spacious camping ground on the edge of the river. A lovely space to stay and appreciate one of Australia's lovely rivers. I imagine this to be an angler's paradise - but it would delight anyone who appreciated nature - with amenities. The stretch of water below the dam's spillway was jumping with large fish - I'm no angler but I could see that anyone who was would be in heaven here. Just across the road is the start (or finish) of the Imbil forest drive - a leisurely, meandering journey through Australia's largest Hoop pine plantation. The road is gravel but well maintained and a very convenient way to see this lovely display of one of Australia's natives being encouraged and nurtured by the Queensland Government. 360o panoramas in the Imbil forest Hoop Pine plantation are available via these links. small (100KB)/large (369KB)
The best way to see the attractions of Lake Borumba and her surrounds is via the SunWeb panoramas. Links to other Borumba dam panoramas are below - the panoramas will each open in their own window.
