This charming church, where Anglican services continue to be held on every third Sunday of the month, and
Ecumenical Service is held at 10.30am on the fifth Sunday of the month.
Although the congregations no longer congregate so frequently, these buildings are proud reminders of times when self-reliance and religion worked hand-in-hand to dot the countryside with elegant and delightful churches.
Recently a Gheerulla Community Precinct Committee has been formed which is a sub-committee of the Gheerulla Hall and Recreation Centre Inc. formed in an endeavour to preserve the Hall (established 1907), St Matthews Church (dedicated 1926) and the Gheerulla Cemetery (1907) for future generations.
All these facilities were handed over to the community debt free by the early pioneers of the district and it is the fervent hope of many of the descendents of those hard-working people that they be retained by contemporary and future communities.
| Webmaster's note:- Sincere thanks to Lenore Meldrum, President of the Kenilworth and District Historical Association Inc. and member of the Gheerulla Community Precinct Committee for her valuable input. |
